Q: What inspired you to join the Manitoba Chambers of Commerce board, and what impact do you hope to make (or to have made so far)?
A: In my previous role as Director, Partnerships & Visitor Experiences with Travel Manitoba, I worked very closely with the Manitoba Chambers of Commerce and its members. In this experience, I gained a great deal of respect for the organization and what it does for our province, our business leaders, and the economy. I am hoping my tourism background and HR experience will help to support our members and make our province even stronger.
Q: What is one key challenge or opportunity you see for businesses in Manitoba right now?
A: Pending Tariffs. The upcoming changes will have a negative impact on our business community, and we need to be prepared to help businesses navigate through those challenges and protect our local economy as well as the workforce.
Q: What is one piece of career advice that has shaped your professional journey?
A: So many! “You can’t listen if you are talking” would stand out to me. It is key to learning, growing and understanding when building relationships, both business and personal.
Q: If you could have dinner with any influential person, past or present, who would it be and why?
A: Arlene Dickinson – she is a strong business leader who has overcome challenges and has worked her way up to being one of the most successful businesswomen in Canada. I would love to know more about the hurdles, the successes and her strategies!
Q: What is your favorite local Manitoba company, restaurant or event to support?
A: For local companies, I love Anne Mulaire Boutique, De Luca’s, and Forks Trading Company. I enjoy any non-branded/chain restaurant that offers local products in their recipes. And I am a strong supporter of all of our local non-profit organizations – I attend about 40-50 galas or fundraisers each year! I believe in making the world better for the future, and I hope that my support will help to do just that.
