FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: September 6, 2019 – The Manitoba Chambers of Commerce (MCC) is proud to announce its 36th Manitoba Business Awards finalists in seven peer and self-nominated categories, as well as the esteemed recipients of Lieutenant Governor’s Awards.

“This year, once again, we received a high calibre of nominations in all categories, and it’s such an honour to learn about and celebrate individuals, companies, and social enterprises for their contributions to Manitoba’s strength,” says Chuck Davidson, Manitoba Chambers of Commerce President & CEO. “These awards provide representatives of our 71 chambers of commerce — and community members from across the province — an opportunity to nominate their business heroes and share inspiring success stories, whether those are about local innovators who demonstrate energy and passion in their pursuits, or the legacy of Manitoba’s established, trusted, long-term employers.”

The Manitoba Business Awards are open to organizations of all sizes and sectors in the province, and celebrate community leaders for their accomplishments, investment in the collective well-being, and most importantly, for their commitment to building a better Manitoba.

The awards include two high-profile Lieutenant Governor’s awards, a tradition MCC established in 2001 to recognize Manitoba’s foremost business leaders. Each year, MCC tasks its Jury Committee to bestow the LG awards on leaders whose vision, integrity, entrepreneurial spirit, exemplary achievements, and philanthropy demonstrate consistent best practice in business at the highest level.

This year’s Lieutenant Governor’s Award for Outstanding Contribution to the Community by an Individual is given to Doug Harvey, President & CEO, the DLH Group Inc.

“Doug embodies the very spirit of this award,” says Davidson. “Not only is he a successful business owner employing more than 1,000 people across the country, he’s a tireless community booster and philanthropist. He inspires staff to commit to volunteerism and fundraising, and he is civic-minded, serving on multiple boards and committees that help raise up Winnipeg and its residents. His company provides community organization sponsorships and Maxim donates a percentage of annual revenues to charity. Bottom line, Doug leads by example, and he has had an immeasurable impact on Winnipeg, and across Manitoba and Canada.”

The Lieutenant Governor’s Award for Outstanding Contribution to the Community by a Business is awarded to Price Industries.

“Price Industries upholds the belief that as a successful enterprise, they have a responsibility to help those who are less fortunate,” says Davidson. “The company is a devoted partner to United Way, supports local fundraisers, and they award ongoing charitable sponsorships to hundreds of organizations across the country, including the True North Hockey Academy. They are dedicated to the common good and very deserving of this recognition.”
