Highway 7 Economic Development Tour Recap: Teulon & Stonewall

Oct 30, 2025

The Manitoba Chambers of Commerce and local partners recently hosted an Economic Development Tour along Highway 7, with stops in Teulon and Stonewall. The one-day event highlighted local projects, business growth, and economic initiatives across the Interlake region.

Teulon: Community and Growth Priorities

The tour began with a group photo at the Teulon Castle Sign, followed by breakfast and presentations at The Farmhouse Café. Delegates were welcomed by Jan Lambourne, Chair of the Teulon & District Chamber of Commerce, Mayor Todd Campbell, and David Leduchowski, President of the Teulon Community Development Initiative.

Speakers outlined Teulon’s economic strengths and challenges, including housing shortages, workforce needs, and the growing popularity of local food and small-scale agriculture. The town continues to balance its role as both an agricultural hub and a bedroom community with essential services such as healthcare, childcare, and banking.

The group then visited the Green Acres Park project site, where plans are underway to develop a new multi-use recreation and event facility. The project aims to attract regional events and provide modern space for community gatherings.

Vidir Solutions: Advanced Manufacturing in Teulon

At Vidir Solutions, participants saw firsthand how a local manufacturer has built a global reputation. Originally founded as a small machine shop, Vidir now designs and produces automated vertical storage systems used by major retailers like Walmart and Home Depot.

Vidir’s fully integrated operation includes design, engineering, software development, and production. With more than 240 employees across Teulon, Arborg, and Pennsylvania, the company continues to expand while supporting local employment and skilled trades training.

Stonewall: Revitalization and Development

Following lunch at Oak Hammock Marsh, delegates heard from Mayor Sandra Smith, CAO Wally Melnyk, and Economic Development Officer Brittany Bennett. Presentations focused on housing, business incentives, and community planning.

Stonewall’s SPRUCE Program encourages new rental housing by offering financial incentives per unit, while the HARDI Program supports larger residential developments through reduced lot fees. The CRISP Program (Commercial Revitalization Incentive Support Program) helps local businesses improve storefronts, attract new entrepreneurs, and support larger commercial investments.

The Town has also secured land for a new Personal Care Home and aging-in-place campus, along with additional parcels for future mixed-use and commercial development.

Stonewall Glass: Local Business with Strong Roots

The tour’s business visit in Stonewall featured Stonewall Glass, a family-run company established in the 1970s. The business specializes in residential and commercial glazing and is recognized for quality workmanship, customer service, and community involvement.

Stonewall Glass offers energy-efficient glass products and framing systems, partnering with programs such as Efficiency Manitoba and Manitoba Hydro’s Home Energy Loan Program. The company’s reputation for reliability and local partnerships has helped it maintain long-term success in the region.

Networking and Wrap-Up

The day concluded with a networking reception at Quarry Park, providing an opportunity for discussion and connection among chamber members, local officials, and business leaders.

The Manitoba Chambers of Commerce thanks the Teulon & District Chamber of Commerce, the Town of Stonewall, and all participating community and business partners for their hospitality and collaboration during the tour.
