“Fans first. One at a time. Every time.”
That simple mantra has become the backbone of Wade Miller’s leadership philosophy. As President and CEO of the Winnipeg Blue Bombers, Miller has not only built a championship football team but also cultivated a culture rooted in authenticity, adaptability, and community.
The latest Breakfast of Champions, hosted by the Manitoba Chambers of Commerce (MCC) at Princess Auto Stadium’s Pinnacle Club, drew more than 200 members of Manitoba’s business community. They came to hear how Miller has transformed the Bombers into a CFL flagship franchise, and why his lessons matter well beyond football.
Building a Culture of Fans First
Founded in 1930, the Winnipeg Football Club has long been about more than the scoreboard. Miller stressed that the club’s purpose is both to win championships and to create memories that sell tickets. Achieving this balance, he explained, comes from putting fans at the heart of everything.
“On game day, you’ll see me in the stands talking to fans,” he said. “We believe in extreme ownership of the fan experience.” His challenge to business leaders was pointed: How close are you to your customers? Are you focused on them every day?
Pride in Manitoba
Miller underscored the importance of celebrating Manitoba’s business community and the identity that sets it apart. “We do business the way people want to do business in this province,” he said. He urged leaders to help the next generation see Manitoba’s companies as a source of pride and opportunity.
For him, authenticity is not just a cultural value. It’s Manitoba’s competitive edge.
Giving Back, Growing Forward
The Bombers’ commitment extends well beyond the stadium. From investing in amateur football to building partnerships with organizations like Access Credit Union and Harvest Manitoba, the team is deepening its presence across the province.
“The Blue Bombers are Manitoba’s team,” Miller noted. “We want to grow our fan base outside the Perimeter by creating true partnerships and making an impact in every corner of this province.”
The morning’s central message was clear: championship organizations, whether in sport or in business, are built not on one big play, but on sweating the small stuff. And as the Bombers prepare for the rest of their 2025 season, that philosophy is something the entire province can rally behind.
