Blueprint for Success Includes Trust, Leadership and Reliability I MBiz Breakfast of Champions Recap

Mar 21, 2025

For John Bockstael, running a company is all about building – but not just in the ways you might think, given that his family business is in the construction industry. For the former CEO, now Chair, of Bockstael Construction – the keynote speaker at the Manitoba Chambers of Commerce’s second event in our MBiz Breakfast of Champions series – the key to being successful in Manitoba comes down to building lasting relationships, building trust, building a strong leadership team, and building a reputation of reliability.

Bockstael held the attention of our audience of close to 300 business leaders and representatives of government, community organizations and Manitoba’s chamber network on Thursday morning as he shared the inspiring story of his family company. Started by John’s grandfather in 1913, Bockstael Construction is now being run by the fourth generation of Bockstaels – John’s three children – but it’s had its fair share of challenges over the years, with a lot of learning along the way.

Embracing change and making the commitment to become a trusted advisor to clients, along with prioritizing thoughtful succession planning to ensure the business’ evolving structure would support its goals, were key to the success Bockstael helped steer the company towards, he shared. He and the team have also long been focused on the impact they leave behind, both on the industry and the community.

Read more about John’s story of the company and the words of wisdom he shared at the Breakfast of Champions in the Winnipeg Free Press article Set direction, stay course amid uncertainty by reporter Aaron Epp, who attended the event.
