Highlighting Manitoba’s Advantages at the Western Canada Economic Forum

Jan 30, 2025

The Manitoba Chambers of Commerce was honoured to be invited to participate at the Second Annual Western Canada Economic Forum last week in Regina.

MCC President & CEO Chuck Davidson highlighted some of the positive elements of the Manitoba economy to an audience of over 200 business and government leaders from across Western Canada, such as aerospace, critical minerals, agricultural production, bus manufacturing and the opportunities around the Port of Churchill.

Davidson, who is also chair of the Rural Manitoba Economic Development Corporation (RMED), also made key points as part of a panel on economic growth in the West. According to him, to ensure Canada’s success:

  • Canada needs to focus on what can be controlled, such as provincial trade barriers
  • We must make key investments within our jurisdictions
  • Our priority should be to focus on growing our local economy through strategies that build supply chains, repatriate industry, and support stronger regional visions and collaborations.

The Western Canada Economic Forum is a not-for-profit organization created to showcase the strength of the Western Canadian economy and to create new partnerships for growth. The third annual forum will be held in Vancouver next year, but it is expected to come to Manitoba in 2027.
