At the end of a week filled with challenging uncertainty amid threats of tariffs from United States President Donald Trump, the Manitoba Chambers of Commerce is pleased to be appointed to a new provincial advisory group to help prepare for the potential of these damaging taxes on imports of Canadian goods.
Our President & CEO, Chuck Davidson, will represent the Manitoba Chambers of Commerce on the new U.S. Trade Council announced today as the voice of business in Manitoba, alongside 15 other members from a range of industries and sectors.
Manitoba’s economy thrives on trade, and the United States is our largest trading partner: nearly three-quarters of Manitoba’s exports go to the U.S., from 1,800 companies. The evolving Canada-U.S. economic relationship have been top of mind for businesses in Manitoba, and this is a tremendous opportunity to step up and take control of our provincial economy.
It’s high time our province focus on reducing internal trade barriers, as well as on our rich advantages here at home including critical minerals, our green economy, and the Port of Churchill, and to commit to decisive action and investment to move these priorities forward.
We know businesses are anxious. The Manitoba Chambers of Commerce and the chamber network are well positioned to keep Manitoba’s business community informed with information and updates on trade, tariffs, and the government’s response. Our involvement in the new U.S. Trade Council will be beneficial for our members and the business community as a whole, and we’re grateful to the Province for recognizing the value of the Manitoba Chambers of Commerce’s role as the voice of business in our province.
