EDAM Forum 2024: Advancing Manitoba’s Economic Future
The 2024 Economic Development Association of Manitoba (EDAM) Forum took place from May 29 to 31, 2024, at the Canad Inns in Portage la Prairie. The event brought together 65 community economic development professionals from across the province, facilitating rich discussions on topics including regional collaboration, mental well-being, the utilization of artificial intelligence, and Indigenous economic perspectives, with valuable insights shared by representatives from the Gambler First Nation.
The forum offered participants enlightening tours, starting with a visit to the Prairie Innovation Centre. Here, attendees witnessed the cutting-edge precision of laser cutters and 3D printers while learning about the Centre’s pivotal role in fostering entrepreneurial success. Presentations throughout the forum highlighted successful collaborative partnerships and regional benefits, with standout examples from Simplot and Roquette.
The tour continued to Southport, a key developmental hub driving significant economic activity in the region. Delegates also visited the National Indigenous Residential School Museum of Canada at Long Plains First Nation, engaging in crucial truth and reconciliation efforts.
The forum’s agenda included the “Economic Development Hive Hot Topics” sessions, which aimed at addressing and providing solutions to community challenges. The event culminated in the prestigious EDAM Awards Gala, celebrating the remarkable achievements and contributions of Manitoba’s community economic developers.
For the Manitoba Chambers of Commerce (MCC), the Forum underscored the importance of supporting economic development practitioners and communities. Through collaboration on professional development, networking, and advocacy, MCC and EDAM can further promote the economic development profession, influence policy, advocate for businesses, support local chambers, and contribute to community well-being.
This gathering not only highlighted the strength of Manitoba’s economic development community but also reinforced our commitment to fostering a prosperous future for all Manitobans.
