Budget 2024: MBiz Breakfast Recap

Apr 8, 2024

Last week, the Manitoba Chambers of Commerce hosted our highly anticipated annual MBiz Breakfast with the Honourable Adrian Sala, Minister of Finance. The event drew a capacity crowd of nearly 300 Manitoba business leaders, gathering at The Delta Hotel the morning after Minister Sala’s inaugural budget presentation as Manitoba’s finance minister.

During the event, Minister Sala delivered a presentation outlining his government’s inaugural budget, focusing on five key priority areas:

  1. Rebuilding Healthcare
  2.  Lowering Costs for Families
  3. Healthier Families and Safer Communities
  4. Growing Our Economy
  5. A Government the Works for You

Minister Sala highlighted Manitoba’s low unemployment and inflation rates, both of which are among the lowest in Canada. He also discussed strategic infrastructure spending, noting that planned capital expenditures focus on the priority areas of healthcare, housing, and transportation. While Budget 2024 includes a deficit, which Minister Sala attributed to promises made by the previous government, he shared the NDP’s plans to balance the deficit in their first term.

Following his presentation, Minister Sala sat down with MCC President & CEO, Chuck Davidson for a Q&A.
