Every summer, thousands of Manitoban children get to spend time in the great outdoors when they attend camp. While there, they learn, adventure, grow and make new friends. Many of the most amazing leaders in our province had the privilege of attending camp during their youth. Campers often tend to grow into volunteers, camp staff and donors as they grow. The camp experience is that important to their childhood.

Meanwhile, there is another segment of our population that isn’t quite so lucky. Due to the ever-increasing cost of living and the fact that the minimum wage has failed to keep pace, many families are unable to find a way to get their children into extracurricular activities like camp. How many amazing opportunities are they missing out on because society has made it more difficult to keep up?

Our year-end campaign this year is entitled ‘Camp It Forward’. We are trying to inspire people to think outside the box when it comes to thinking about how summer camp affects our population. Children of all ages have their lives changed by experiencing just one week of camp each summer.

Donating is one way to ‘Camp It Forward’, but there are many ways to change the lives of the children in our province. There are many opportunities to volunteer at the numerous camps in our association. Join a board, offer to help with maintenance projects or fundraisers. If you have a great memory from attending a camp when you were young, share that experience with the young people in your life.

Of course, your financial gifts are very appreciated. A donation of just $400, you can be responsible for helping send a kid to a week of summer camp. Any size gift helps us to attain our goal of returning to our pre-pandemic numbers by sending over 600 kids to camp through the Sunshine Fund this summer.
