MCC partners with UCN on Northern Economic Development Summit

The Manitoba Chambers of Commerce was on the road again last week partnering with University College of the North for Linkages: Northern Manitoba and the World Conference focused on initiating creative, critical thinking and collaborative conversations about northern economic development and the future.

The two-day Conference held in The Pas brought together business and community leaders as well as elected officials from across northern Manitoba to discuss the future opportunities for the North.

MCC President & CEO Chuck Davidson moderated a CEO panel on future opportunities for the North featuring  Canadian Kraft Paper President Ann Evans, North Forge CEO Joelle Foster, Arctic Gateway CEO Michael Woelcke, and Mayor of Flin Flon Cal Huntley.

Other speakers included geopolitical author Peter Ziehan; CEO of Treaty 1 Development Corporation Whelan Sutherland; Intrapreneurship Tech Advisor Dr. Chitra Anand; and Operations Manager of North Forge North’s FabLab Don (Shorty) Glenn.

The Conference coincided with the five-year anniversary of the release of the Look North strategy which focused on developing a long-term strategy for economic prosperity in the Manitoba’s North.
