“Mining development in Manitoba is an economic foundation in our province,” says Honourable Greg Nesbitt, Minister of Natural Resources & Northern Development. “It provides increased opportunities for partnerships and development along with employment opportunities that will strengthen and greatly benefit communities in the North and across the province. Supporting and investing in projects that contribute to sustainable mineral development will help position Manitoba as leaders in the mineral sector.”
The Manitoba government established the MMDF in 2019 with an initial investment of $20 million to provide funding for economic development and mining projects in northern Manitoba and mineral development-related projects throughout the province. Each year, six per cent of tax revenue collected from the Mining Tax Act is allocated to the fund.
MCC has final decision-making authority over which projects will be supported, and reports annually to the province about the fund’s activities, results, and financial health.
