WINNIPEG – JULY 27, 2021: With Manitoba’s early achievement of milestones in the pathway to recovery, the Manitoba Chambers of Commerce (MCC), alongside Honourable Jon Reyes, Minister of Economic Development & Jobs, and Colin Ferguson, President & CEO, Travel Manitoba, today announced the launch of TRIP, a Tourism Rebate Incentive Program in support of our tourism industry that will benefit Manitobans traveling locally.

Manitoba residents touring the province between July 31 and August 16, 2021, may be eligible for rebates on accommodations (a $100 rebate on a one-night’s stay at qualifying hotels/motels, OR up to $150 rebate on a hotel-designed package which could feature accommodations, as well as a meal, a local attraction, or a golf game), as well as 50% off Star Attraction admission fees.

“Our summers are special, and this is the peak season for hospitality and tourism businesses,” said Chuck Davidson, MCC President & CEO. “As Manitobans have achieved established vaccination rates ahead of time and we’ve moved forward in our economic re-opening pathway, it’s time for us to get out there to safely enjoy our province’s natural beauty and unique character. Visit family and friends, relax in a hotel, and invest in the experiences, shopping, and dining that Manitoba’s welcoming communities have to offer.”

Prior to COVID-19, the tourism industry employed more than 20,000 Manitobans, injected more than $1.63 billion into the local economy, and welcomed 10.5 million visitors in 2019.

“Manitoba’s tourism industry has been and continues to be gravely affected by the pandemic, and this recovery program is a win-win because it targets support to this hard-hit sector while benefiting our residents,” said Davidson. “TRIP is an opportunity for Manitobans to invest in their home community with a staycation, or to travel to and experience a Manitoba community they’ve always wanted to visit — at a reduced cost. Let’s explore our beautiful province and have fun this summer after 17 long months of staying very close to home,” said Davidson.

Manitobans wishing to submit qualifying receipts to the Tourism Rebate Incentive Program will have until August 23, 2021 to do so. If funds remain after the closure of the intake window, MCC will have an option to restart the program for a second phase.

“We anticipate great uptake on this program, so we encourage Manitobans wanting to participate to upload qualifying receipts as soon as possible. Take advantage of an opportunity for some rest and relaxation, or book a getaway to a favourite Manitoba community, while supporting local business owners who need us now more than ever. We know they are excited to be able to welcome you back.”

The TRIP program coincides with the launch of Travel Manitoba’s brand-new Manitoba Tourism Strategy and Road Trips Promotion, also announced today during this media event hosted by MCC.
