Artificial intelligence can feel like a moving target. New tools emerge almost daily, the possibilities seem endless, and for many business owners, finding the time to figure out what is useful and what is just noise can be a challenge.
Across Manitoba, businesses are exploring how AI can help them work smarter, save time, and create new opportunities. But knowing where to start is often the hardest part. That’s why the Manitoba Chambers of Commerce (MCC) is helping businesses turn interest in AI into practical action.
Through Manitoba AI Pathways (MAP), this work is already underway, helping businesses build confidence, equipping local chambers with the tools to support their members, and laying the groundwork for a more productive, AI-ready Manitoba.
Making AI Work for Real Businesses
For a small business owner, an extra hour in the day can make a real difference. It might mean more time with customers, less time spent on paperwork, or the opportunity to focus on growing the business instead of keeping up with routine tasks.
That’s where AI has the potential to make a difference.
It might help draft a customer email, organize information, support marketing efforts, or simplify a repetitive process. These may seem like small changes, but when time and resources are stretched, small efficiencies can add up.
For many businesses, the challenge isn’t seeing the potential of AI; it’s finding the time, resources, and confidence to put it into practice.
Research conducted by the Manitoba Chambers of Commerce and the Winnipeg Chamber of Commerce, surveying 195 Manitoba businesses in late 2025, highlighted both the growing interest in AI and the challenges businesses face in adopting it strategically. While many businesses are already exploring AI tools, questions remain about how to integrate them into operations, build the necessary skills, and establish clear strategies for responsible use.
MAP is helping businesses take that next step. Through practical resources and an AI Readiness Assessment, businesses can identify opportunities, better understand their current capabilities, and explore how AI could support their goals.
The focus is on helping businesses find solutions that make sense for their operations, rather than adopting technology simply to keep up with the latest trends.

A Province-Wide Effort, Powered by Local Connections
One of the most encouraging aspects of MAP is the way it brings communities together around a shared opportunity.
To date, 26 chambers have been involved in the initiative, with facilitator training completed to help strengthen local capacity to support businesses as they navigate AI adoption.
Why does that matter?
Because businesses don’t operate in a vacuum. They rely on relationships, trusted advice, and connections with people who understand their challenges. Local chambers are often at the heart of those relationships, bringing business owners together and helping them find the information and resources they need to succeed.
Through practical AI training, resource toolkits, and materials to engage their members, MAP equips chambers to make AI knowledge more accessible to the businesses they serve.
That local perspective matters. MCC’s data is revealing differences in the needs of small and medium-sized businesses across Manitoba, with priorities varying between rural communities and urban centres like Winnipeg. Access to labour, infrastructure, markets, and business support can shape how businesses approach new technologies and opportunities. A manufacturer may be looking to improve operational efficiency, while a professional services firm may be exploring ways to streamline administrative work. By understanding these differences, local chambers can help make AI knowledge and resources more relevant, practical, and valuable to the businesses they serve.
This province-wide approach creates opportunities for businesses to learn, ask questions, share experiences, and explore new tools with support from organizations they already know and trust.
Small Steps, Meaningful Progress
When we talk about AI, it’s easy to get caught up in the biggest possibilities: transforming entire industries, reshaping the workforce, or fundamentally changing how businesses operate. But meaningful progress often starts much closer to home, with a business identifying a challenge, finding a better way to tackle it, and gaining the confidence to try something new.
That’s the kind of progress MAP is working to support across the province.
By building AI knowledge and support within the chamber network, MAP is helping create a stronger starting point for businesses looking to explore new tools and approaches. The opportunity is to make AI adoption feel less overwhelming and more connected to the everyday challenges businesses are trying to solve.
That support matters because successful AI adoption requires more than access to technology. Businesses need to understand where AI could be useful, how to apply it to real challenges, and how to use it responsibly.
Protecting confidential information, checking the accuracy of AI-generated content, and establishing clear guidelines all help businesses explore new tools thoughtfully while keeping human judgment at the centre of important decisions.
The groundwork is being laid for businesses to move beyond experimentation and toward more intentional adoption, with support to identify opportunities that align with their needs and priorities.
Turning Momentum into Opportunity for Manitoba
The next step is helping more businesses put AI into practice and understand the difference it can make, whether that means saving time, improving processes, enhancing customer experiences, or creating new capacity for growth.
For Manitoba, the opportunity extends beyond individual businesses. A business community that is better equipped to adapt and innovate is better positioned to compete, respond to economic challenges, and pursue new opportunities.
And no business has to navigate that journey alone. Through collaboration between MCC, local chambers, government, and education partners, MAP is helping make practical AI knowledge and support more accessible across the province.
