Manitoba Green Economy Roadmap

About the Roadmap

Manitoba has a once-in-a-generation opportunity to position itself as a green economy powerhouse. Building upon our proud history of clean power, strong work ethic, and business innovation, Manitoba brings many advantages to businesses looking to lower emissions and develop green solutions. A robust strategy and clear policy framework backed by coordinated enablers and supports are needed to focus the collective efforts of government and industry and drive a successful provincial level transition.

We’re creating the Manitoba Green Economy Roadmap to serve as a foundational guide to propel this transition forward. It is built on two equally critical pathways: Industry and Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs). Both pathways align with the overarching goal of reducing emissions, fostering innovation, and driving economic growth, yet they navigate unique terrains informed by data, economic analysis, and stakeholder input.

RESEARCH

Opportunities Report

Manitoba Green Advantage is working to set a clear vision, objectives, and a justified course of action based on research and economic analyses of green development opportunities. We are continuing to explore and gather information about these opportunities, to guide the content and direction as we build the Green Economy Roadmap.

The Manitoba’s Green Economy Opportunities Report outlines six key green economic opportunities, identified through in-depth research and analysis, that build on Manitoba’s advantages. These high-potential industry opportunities are: wind energy, green hydrogen, sustainable aviation fuel, zero-emission commercial vehicles, small modular reactors (SMRs), and critical minerals

This report is intended to provide an objective and research-based assessment of these six opportunities for Manitoba, and to guide discussions with stakeholders to agree on and prioritize the best opportunities for our province in the green economy. Each of these opportunities has the potential to create jobs and attract investment, but they are interconnected, and development will be gradual.

Opportunity Test Cases

The Opportunities report includes excerpts of sample test cases for each opportunity. The full test cases are also available for a more in-depth review.

Stakeholder Engagement

Manitoba Green Economy Forum

The Manitoba Green Advantage team held the first Manitoba Green Economy Forum in October 2024, bringing together 130 key industry leaders including  government officials, business leaders, academia, NGOs, SMEs, and Indigenous partnersto share feedback and insights that we are now using to develop the Roadmap to help guide our province towards a greener future.

Event feedback: InVisionEdge Report

The Manitoba Chambers of Commerce partnered with inVisionEdge to facilitate a Strategy Feedback Session at the Green Economy Forum, aiming to gather stakeholder input on the six key opportunities the Manitoba Green Advantage team identified. InVisionEdge prepared this report, which will be used to channel information and feedback into the Roadmap.

Next Steps

The Roadmap is a starting point, not a final destination. We are continuing to collect information and feedback to guide its creation. Success will depend on collaboration and commitment from all stakeholders, including government, industry leaders, SMEs, Indigenous communities, and the public.

Manitoba has a real chance to lead in the green economy, but it will take a united effort to make this vision a reality. Manitoba’s green advantage is ours to claim – now is the time to leverage it, build on it, and create a sustainable, prosperous future that benefits all Manitobans.
