Wayne Ewasko, first elected as the Member of the Legislative Assembly for Lac du Bonnet in 2011 and successfully re-elected in 2016 and 2019, was government caucus chair from 2016 until his current appointment as Minister of Advanced Education, Skills and Immigration in January 2021.
The Department’s mandate is to promote access to advanced education opportunities for all Manitobans with quality education and skills development for the contemporary workforce, while supporting new economic and social opportunities for Manitoba graduates and immigrants, in addition to attracting and welcoming more immigrants to Manitoba through our highly regarded Manitoba Provincial Nominee Program.
Wayne is a two-time graduate of the University of Manitoba with a Bachelor of Education Degree and a Post-Baccalaureate Certificate in Education. Prior to his election to the Manitoba Legislature, he was a teacher and guidance counsellor in the Sunrise School Division for 17 years. One highlight of his teaching career was receiving the Teacher of Distinction Award from Brandon University in 2008.
Growing up on a farm in the Brokenhead area near Beausejour, Wayne and his wonderful wife Tracey have two sons, Brayden and Jarvis. An avid curler, he is an active member of his local community including volunteering with the Beausejour Knights of Columbus and the Beausejour Lions Club.
