Our time to shine

As we’re emerging from the Covid-19 pandemic and doors are slowly reopening for many businesses, we have an opportunity to shine.

We have become all too familiar with stories of struggle caused by the pandemic. Its impact on the economy — especially among small to medium businesses, the hospitality sector, tourism, personal service providers, restaurants, and more – is almost unfathomable. That’s why we’re committed to supporting local businesses.

Join us in doing the same – support local, personally and for your business supply chain. Pause and reflect to make small changes, because when you buy local, you invest in Manitobans and the economy.

Manitoba’s Outlook

Every Manitoban was affected in one way or another as a result of the pandemic. Perhaps your parents’ business had to close its doors for a few months, or you were among the 8.7% of Winnipeggers unemployed in 2020.

Most-Affected Sectors

While every sector was affected in one way or another, shutdowns due to safety protocols and changes in demand made for a difficult year for many organizations, especially those in the restaurant, airline, and leisure facility industries. Oil & gas drilling and auto parts & equipment were also among the top sectors affected by COVID-19. And now, here we are, excited to be able to travel, gather with loved ones, and soak up the sun on patios for a sit-down meal in a restaurant once again.

These workers, owners, and entrepreneurs might be friends, neighbours, or colleagues, but somebody who know has been directly affected economically over the past 18 months.

We can help Manitobans and our Manitoba economy recover by supporting and shopping local, then by spotlighting our purchases. Tell your friends and family about your favourite products on social media, and challenge them to support local, highlighting their faves, especially since we know Manitobans are a humble bunch.

Now’s the time. Every local purchase counts. Every dollar helps.

How can I make a difference?

Every purchase from a local business helps Manitobans directly, as well as our economy.
