CLIMATE CHANGE ACTION: Manitoba’s Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises

Complete our brief SMEs climate change action survey here

BACKGROUND: As a Manitoba resident, you likely have already considered the potential impact of climate change on your your local region, your residence, and maybe even your personal safety. If you’re part of the tourism or agricultural sectors, or you happen to operate a weather-dependent business, you likely have thought about climate change. But what if you’re part of a SME in another sector? Have you considered climate change and its potential effects on your business? Or have you discovered new economic opportunities created by climate change impact?

The Winnipeg-based International Institute for Sustainable Development (IISD) is partnering with the Manitoba Chambers of Commerce (MCC) to connect with the province’s community of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) to discuss what climate change means to their business. This initiative includes an online survey as well as climate action forums for business to help clarify the barriers to climate change action, and uncover the types of support and information needed by SMEs to reduce carbon emissions and boost climate resiliency.

Our end goal: to collect valuable information that will inform the development of practical resources and tools for Manitoba SMEs to help you plan for and adapt to climate change impact and opportunities. The resulting data will also be used by governments in their own planning to help SMEs access programs, rebates, and more. Here are two ways to participate:

  1. Do you represent a SME or are you an employee of a small to medium-sized enterprise who is interested in climate change? If so, we’d like to hear from you about challenges and barriers to climate change action, as well as positive steps you’re taking.
  2. re you a Chamber leader in our network? Register now to host an in-person climate change action focus group for your members: Focus Group Overview
