Look North Task Force Release Northern Economic Report

After nearly ten months of meetings, consultations, and gaining input from northern residents, a new report and action plan to help spur long-term economic development in Northern Manitoba is seeing the light of day.

The province’s Look North initiative is an ongoing and in-depth process to engage Manitobans to create an environment necessary for the attraction of new businesses and expansion of existing expertise. The Look North Economic Development Task Force co-chairs, Manitoba Chambers of Commerce President and CEO Chuck Davidson and OCN Chief Christian Sinclair, were joined by Growth, Enterprise, and Trade Minister Blaine Pederson in Thompson, Manitoba to present the final report, representing the groups nearly year-long examination of the issues, opportunities, and ideas towards growing and fostering Northern economic development.

The report highlights six keys areas that matter most to those impacted and who stand to benefit the most, northerners:

  1. Northern Minerals and Other Potential Resource Potential
  2. Indigenous Engagement and Partnerships
  3. Strategic Infrastructure Investment
  4. Housing Challenges and Opportunities
  5. Enterprise Eco-System of Support
  6. Education, Training, and Workforce Development
