The State of Tourism in Manitoba

chuck-davidson-staff-224x300Advocacy is at the heart of what the Manitoba Chambers of Commerce (MCC) is. Our organization is also committed to building relationships and finding ways of working together for the betterment of Manitoba business and all Manitobans.

Never before has everything come together at one time…until now. Advocacy takes time. Building relationships take time and improving Manitoba takes time. Over the last few months, MCC, led by our tourism committee, has been working with the Province of Manitoba and the Ministry of Tourism to put the focus on marketing this wonderful province to the world and providing stakeholders (all Manitobans) with a long-term, sustainable investment.

The majority of the work culminated in mid-September with a private meeting with Premier Greg Selinger and members of his Cabinet. During this meeting, MCC made the business case for looking at tourism as an investment. The Sustainable, long-term investment model we presented would provide government an immediate return on their initial investment. Although there is still work to be done, through hard work, building trust, and some frank discussions, tourism is being seen as a priority by government and we could not be happier.
