In May 2013, Protegra launched Protunity – a quality, online B2B matching network that helps buyers and sellers efficiently connect based on business needs and offerings. Protunity was developed based on participating in Centralia in 2010, a 2-day networking and business matching conference hosted in Winnipeg that connected businesses with potential partners from around the world. Similar to Protunity, businesses were screened and matched with similar businesses in advance of the conference. “While Centralia provides great matching opportunities for businesses, it is only two days. We wanted to create a platform that could match businesses 24/7, 365 days a year, and replicate the way businesses connect offline,” says Protegra CEO, Wadood Ibrahim.
“What makes Protunity different from other online platforms is that it is invitation-only, subscription and referral-based, and members are in control of their own information and with whom they connect,” adds Ibrahim. “We have solid partnerships with Chambers of Commerce, World Trade Centres and trade associations who screen members before joining making Protunity a private, trusted network.” The Winnipeg Chamber of Commerce and World Trade Centre Winnipeg are Protunity’s two founding partners. The Manitoba Chamber of Commerce, Women’s Enterprise Network, and ICTAM are also Protunity partners. Several southern Ontario Chambers of Commerce will be joining as partners at the end of October 2013.
The platform enables members to focus on building their business network while Protunity does the business matching for them based on their needs and offerings. Protunity notifies the businesses of their new matches daily by email. Because Protunity is a private, trusted business network, it cuts out the noise of social media, and members receive no SPAM, ads, or unwanted sales calls. Businesses can connect with other local, national or international businesses all from the comfort of their computer. “It’s about trying to help people operate online just like they operate in real life,” says Ibrahim.
