The Lake Winnipeg Foundation has been added to the agenda for the Thinkers Conference, scheduled for February 21 to 23, 2013 at the University of Winnipeg. The goal of the conference is to facilitate new creative ideas to existing Manitoba issues. Hank Venema of the International Institute for Sustainable Development and Greg Bruce of Ducks Unlimited will both contribute to a panel discussion on Innovative Solutions to Lake Winnipeg’s Challenges. Dr. Venema plans to discuss the Bioeconomy Project and how we can use bold action to turn this environmental problem into an economic opportunity for Manitoba.
Lake Winnipeg is the tenth largest freshwater lake in the world and it is an urgent concern that it has recently been nominated for the annual “Threatened Lake of the year 2013” by the Global Nature Fund, an organization that created the International Living Lakes network.
“We recognize that Lake Winnipeg is one of the most at-risk lakes in the world and we believe that this is an urgent Manitoba problem. The conference will address this topic and consider the creation of new partnerships between The Lake Winnipeg Foundation and all Manitobans.” Says Bob Axworthy, Chair of the Thinkers Conference.
The Thinker’s Conference will bring together the best and brightest minds from a wide range of backgrounds and professional disciplines for a discussion of new ideas and bold solutions to chart a course for the province’s long-term future. The conference will encourage open dialogue and innovative thinking from all participants. The Thinkers Conference is really excited to add the Lake Winnipeg Foundation and their representative speakers to Thursday’s agenda.
