Hello Pages Scam Targeting Rural Customers

Oct 18, 2012 | Chamber News

The Thompson Chamber of Commerce has alerted us to a scam that appears to be targeting rural Manitobans regarding collect calls.  MTS Customer Care has received numerous calls regarding the charges on customer bills etc. which began around the June timeframe.  The collect charges of $49.95 are from a third party billing company on behalf of Hello Pages.

We can send the charges back to Hello Pages and remove it from your MTS bill only. We cannot guarantee though that the customer will not receive an invoice from Hello Pages.

Further to this email I have been provided with a toll free number for Hello Pages 1-855-248-1106.

Hello pages has advised us that the customer must first authorize the charges verbally, before selecting the prompt number. Hello Pages said they keep the name of the authorizing customer and then follow up with an email.

They explained that if the customer calls within 30 days they may cancel the service. Otherwise it will continue to bill them monthly, until they call to cancel.

When calling MTS to dispute the charge and have it removed from your MTS bill please state that this was not an authorized call.
