TD has invested more than $1 million in Financial Literacy Programs in the past year

TD Bank Group congratulates Finance Minister Jim Flaherty for designating November as Financial Literacy Month.

“Through the Task Force on Financial Literacy and today’s announcements, Minister Flaherty has demonstrated that he takes the issue of Financial Literacy seriously. TD does as well,” said Scott Mullin, Vice President, Community Relations, TD Bank Group.

Financial Literacy support at TD means contributing both financial and human resources to support community focused financial literacy initiatives in across the country. TD donated more than $1 million to community organizations dedicated to promoting financial literacy in 2011 and expects this to increase to $1.5 million in 2012.

In addition to financial support, more than 750 TD employees volunteered their time to deliver financial literacy programs to Canadians, volunteer participation is also expected to grow in 2012 to more than 1,000 TD volunteers.

TD is committed to helping Canadians build their financial knowledge, skills and confidence. TD provides funding to key organizations behind Financial Literacy Month, including:

  • ABC Life Literacy –  TD is the Founding Sponsor of Financial Literacy Week (October 30-November 5), the kick-off to Financial Literacy Month and of the Money Matters program whereby TD volunteers deliver workshops to adult learners.
  • Junior Achievement Canada – TD provides financial and volunteer support to deliver in-school programs, including Economics for Success.
