The Winnipeg Blue Bombers, in partnership with Safeway, are proud to announce the details of the 2012 Coach Richard Harris Scholarships.

Starting today, Wednesday October 5th Blue Bomber fans can purchase a limited number of tickets (350 per game) for the two remaining regular season home games (October 22nd against the Montreal Alouettes and October 28th against the Toronto Argonauts) for $30 plus tax, exclusively at Madison Square Safeway located at 1612 Ness Avenue near Canad Inns Stadium.

A portion of each ticket sold ($7.25) will be donated by Safeway and the Blue Bombers to Football Manitoba in a trust fund for two scholarships in honour of Coach Harris for the 2012 football season.

Coach Harris was an integral part of the development of football in Manitoba in his six years in Winnipeg.  Harris understood the values and determination it took to get to the next level, from his days at Grambling University to his journey to the NFL and finally his days as a coach in the CFL.  Coach Harris did it the only way he knew how which was through hard work, dedication and commitment to not only the game but to his teammates, his fellow coaches, his family, and his fans and most importantly to him, his community at large.

Coach Harris would often stop in on minor football practices around the city to say hello and offer coaches and players advice whenever they asked for it.  Simply put, Coach Harris loved all things football.

The concept of the Coach Richard Harris Scholarships will allow the University of Manitoba and the Winnipeg Rifles to extend a scholarship each to a player and/or student for the 2012 season. The requirements of this scholarship process will be monitored by a group that was close to Coach Harris and whom he shared countless hours talking about life and football. Representatives from Football Manitoba, the Harris Family, the Blue Bombers and Head Coaches for both the Rifles and Bison’s will filter through the applicants to ensure the recipients best matches the qualifications that would make Coach Harris proud.

Recipients of the Scholarship will be awarded at a Blue Bomber home game in the summer of 2012.
