OSM & MFM Congratulate the Producers of the Manitoba-Filmed Goon

On Screen Manitoba and Manitoba Film & Music congratulate Manitoba-based Inferno Pictures, Don Carmody Productions, No Trace Camping, Carmel Films and Jay Baruchel on the recent sale of the U.S. rights for their co-produced hockey comedy, Goon, to Magnet Releasing.

Goon was co-produced by Ian Dimerman (Inferno Pictures), Don Carmody (Don Carmody Productions), David Gross (No Trace Camping), André Rouleau (Carmel Films), Jay Baruchel and was directed by Mike Dowse. The film had its world premiere at the 2011 Toronto International Film Festival and stars Sean William Scott, Alison Pill, Jay Baruchel (who co-wrote the film with Evan Goldberg), Liev Schreiber and Kim Coates.

Goon centres on bouncer, Doug Glatt, who is labelled an outcast by his brainy family but overcomes long odds to lead a team of under-performing misfits to semi-pro hockey glory, beating the crap out of everything that stands in his way. It was filmed in the fall of 2010 at various locations around Manitoba including Winnipeg and Portage la Prairie.

Magnet President Eamonn Bowles said in a statement, “Goon is a pucking blast. It’s a complete crowd pleaser that has all the elements of a future comedy classic.” Magnet plans an early 2012 theatrical release as part of Magnolia’s Ultra VOD program.
