Capital Business Solutions Merges with MNP

Aug 23, 2011 | Corporate Member News

Capital Business Solutions (CBS) Inc., an Edmonton-based firm, will merge with MNP LLP, one of Canada’s largest chartered accountancy and consulting firms, effective September 1, 2011.

Specializing in serving Western Canada and the mid-market, CBS focuses on clients in the energy, natural resources and manufacturing sectors. They strive to strengthen their clients’ business by providing corporate finance solutions, commercial mortgages, business sale advisory, consulting and executive recruitment. Providing temporary manpower to the heavy industrial and mining sectors has also played a major role in their success.

“This merger allows us to strategically grow the firm by adding more resources and expertise to better serve the needs of the marketplace,” said Daryl Ritchie, Chief Executive Officer of MNP. “As with MNP, CBS has a strong mid-market focus and we’re looking forward to working together to better serve our clients.”

CBS will be joining MNP’s corporate finance division. Since 1988, MNP Corporate Finance Inc., a subsidiary of MNP LLP, has been committed to helping Canadian companies achieve their financing goals.

“Whether it is capital to fund a client’s growth strategy, assistance in selling their company, divesting of assets, or other merger and acquisition activity, MNP has a network of corporate finance professionals who can access key decision makers, locally, nationally and around the world,” said Blair Bondar, Partner, CBS “Both firms also take a similar approach to client relationships and believe that together our firms could better assist our clients in achieving their goals.”

Lloyd Strain, Partner, CBS added that they were looking to join a firm that could enhance their current service offerings in accounting, taxation and consulting while providing an expanded national and global reach to their clients.

“In addition to delivering unparalleled corporate finance solutions, MNP has a large national presence with hundreds of MNP experts and specialists across the country,” said Strain. “Equally important, MNP has access to a global network of accounting firms and affiliations through Praxity—an international alliance of independent accounting firms. This combination of resources, industry insight and experience was very appealing to our firm and instrumental in our decision to join MNP.”

CBS’s team of eight will move into MNP’s Edmonton downtown location at Suite 400, 10104 – 103 Avenue NW.
