Described as “outstanding” and “proficient”, Manitoba Lotteries’ 2010/11 annual budget plan has been recognized by the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada (GFOA) with a Distinguished Budget Presentation Award.
This is the seventh consecutive year Manitoba Lotteries has received the honour. To qualify, a plan must meet nationally recognized guidelines and excel in its effectiveness as a policy document, an operating guide, a financial plan and a communications device.
“The continuing recognition we receive for our budget plans indicate how seriously we take our responsibility for fiscal management,” said Winston Hodgins, Manitoba Lotteries President and CEO. “As a Crown corporation, we are committed to not only make business decisions that benefit Manitobans, but that are also consistent and clearly synchronized with our publically stated corporate values and strategic direction.”
The budget was evaluated by three independent reviewers. Among their comments, one reviewer said the budget provides “an excellent presentation and discussion of performance measures.” The reviewers also found the plan “concisely presented” and “clearly linked to the [corporation’s] strategic plan.”
The GFOA awards program was established in 1984 and recognizes exemplary budget documentation by state, provincial and municipal governments. The program is designed to encourage governments to prepare budget documents that are of the highest quality to meet the needs of decision-makers and citizens.
