In recognition of the impact of this year’s extensive flooding on Manitobans, including many MTS customers and employees, MTS today donated $50,000 to the Canadian Red Cross in Manitoba to support their flood response efforts. Since the flooding began this spring, the Canadian Red Cross has been helping evacuated families in more than 40 communities across the province whose lives have been turned upside down by the 2011 flood.

“The work of the Red Cross in our community through this time of crisis has been vital in supporting thousands of Manitobans,” said Kelvin Shepherd, President of MTS. “On behalf of all of us at MTS, we hope this donation will aid the Red Cross’s relief efforts to help many flood affected families. Our thoughts and prayers go out to Manitobans who have been, and continue to be, affected by the flooding.”

Over the past three months, MTS volunteers have spent hundreds of hours helping flood victims and MTS has donated dozens of FleetNet radios and airtime to various emergency organizations involved in flood mitigation efforts. MTS’s technicians have been working tirelessly to ensure that MTS’s network and services are maintained for those customers who have been experiencing flooding, and to restore service as quickly as possible where flooding has affected communities and individual customers.

“Red Cross is thrilled that MTS has contributed so generously to our flood response. Those dollars will be put to good use helping Manitobans cope with and recover from such a widespread and continuing flood situation,” said Cheryl Baldwin, Disaster Response Team Director for the Red Cross in Manitoba.

MTS has a strong history of supporting the Canadian Red Cross relief efforts. In January, the Company donated $25,000 and provided a variety of services to support relief efforts in Haiti. MTS was also a proud sponsor of the Rise Again 2009: Red Cross Manitoba Flood Relief Concert.

Canadians wishing to support Canadian Red Cross Manitoba Floods Response efforts are encouraged to contribute by calling 1-800-418-1111 or by donating through http://www.redcross.ca/.
