MTS Allstream is pleased to announce its participation in World IPv6 Day, today, June 8, 2011. The goal of World IPv6 Day is to motivate organizations across the industry to prepare their services for IPv6 and to ensure a successful transition from IPv4. MTS Allstream’s participation has successfully validated various IPv6 services and connections with the Company’s Internet peers and carriers.

As part of MTS Allstream’s participation in the “test flight”, organizations who are IPv6 enabled can verify their IPv6 connectivity and address by going to http://ipv6.mtsallstream.com/.

“MTS Allstream’s participation will help provide greater insight into the enhancements required by our customers as they begin to deploy IPv6 within their businesses,” said Dean Prevost, President, Allstream. “World IPv6 Day is building further momentum around this change and we’re pleased to be a part of it.”

With the global depletion of IPv4 addresses, businesses are planning their migration of Internet traffic to support IPv6; ensuring sustainability and functionality of their Internet accessible information. As part of this, MTS Allstream will begin deploying dual stack IPv6 capability to select service areas and cities for customers.

Dual stack allows customers to connect with both IPv4 and IPv6 networks simultaneously through their Internet connection. The advantage of dual stack is that the customer network will continue to run on IPv4 without disruption, while gradually enabling IPv6 addresses to their network devices. MTS Allstream is currently working to ensure that a successful transition is in place for our customers.
