The University of Manitoba congratulates Mark Chipman, David Thomson and their dedicated staff at True North Sports and Entertainment for bringing back NHL hockey to Winnipeg.

Your vision, hard work and willingness to successfully pursue Winnipeg’s and Manitoba’s NHL dream in the face of sometimes seemingly insurmountable odds is an inspiration to all of us.

With the construction of a new football stadium on our campus, professional sport in Winnipeg is undergoing an unprecedented renaissance, one that will make our great  city and great province an even better place to live.

It is a fortunate coincidence that the announcement of NHL comes during Spring Convocation at the University of Manitoba. This truly is a time of exciting and promising new beginnings.

There is much to celebrate this week, especially for hockey fans.  You have been waiting for this announcement for the better part of two decades.

Enjoy your party at The Forks. You’ve earned it.
