Following the announcement of the return of an NHL franchise to Manitoba, MMF President David Chartrand offered his sincere congratulations to True North Sports and Entertainment for finalizing the deal.
“This is indeed a very proud day for all Manitobans and I applaud the entrepreneurial spirit of True North in demonstrating their confidence in the Manitoba economy and vision for future opportunities in our great province. I encourage all Metis citizens to show their support for the team and help move this city and province forward as a world class centre of excellence”
Former NHL star, Theoren Fleury also offered his statement of support. “As a Manitoba Metis citizen and former NHL hockey player I think this is just a great day for Winnipeg, and for Canada as well. It’s an exciting day for the City of Winnipeg and for hockey in Manitoba, the city of Winnipeg needed their team back.”
“Besides the economic benefits, a professional team will serve as a great role model to our youth” said Chartrand. “The many young fans of today will set their sights on dreams of a professional career tomorrow just as Theo Fleury once did before advancing into a hugely successful run as an Olympic athlete and NHL great.”
