Meyers Norris Penny LLP and Vancouver Accounting Firm Chang Lee LLP Merge to Enhance Pacific Rim Strategy

Apr 14, 2011 | Corporate Member News

Meyers Norris Penny LLP (MNP), one of Canada’s largest chartered accountancy and business advisory firms, and Vancouver accounting firm Chang Lee LLP, announced today that they will merge on June 1, 2011.

“This merger marks a significant milestone for MNP,” said Daryl Ritchie, CEO, MNP. “Coming together with Chang Lee will enhance our Pacific Rim strategy, and strengthen our public company practice in North America.”

Chang Lee specializes in providing assurance and audit services to public companies in Asia (members of the firm travel regularly to visit clients’ operations in China), Canada and the U.S.A. Many of their clients operate in the technology, mining and oil and gas sectors.

“Our firm envisioned what the world economy would look like in five to 10 years. By all accounts Asia will likely be where the dominant economies will reside. We knew we needed a strategy to align with these economies and business opportunities,” said Ritchie. “Businesses are becoming global. With Canada’s abundance of natural resources, the stability of our government and our secure banking system, we have an advantage over other developed countries in terms of attracting investments into Canada. As a firm, we already have good connections through our practice affiliates in China, but this merger will complement our presence even more. Together, our firms have the expertise and the knowledge to serve the markets of the Pacific Rim.”

Chang Lee is registered with the Canadian Public Accountability Board (CPAB) and the Public Company Accountability Oversight Board (PCAOB) in the United States and, providing assurance services to public companies listed on both the Canadian and U.S. stock exchanges.

“We are very proud to be joining MNP,” said Yang Chang, Managing Partner of Chang Lee. “MNP has clients who operate on a global scale and understand the challenges of operating across borders. By coming together both firms have expanded our capacity to better serve our clients. MNP is also a member of Praxity, a global alliance of independent firms, and has access to experts and specialists around the world. With MNP’s global reach, we have the expertise and resources to assist our clients wherever they operate.”

Chang said that the decision to join MNP made sense from a number of perspectives.

“In addition to having national and global access to specialists, MNP serves diverse cultures and has a strong interest in the Asian economy,” said Chang. “To merge with a firm that understands the unique strengths and needs of various cultures was integral to our decision.”

Chang Lee’s entire team will be moving into MNP’s Vancouver location at 2300, 1055 Dunsmuir Street.
