Seven B.C. companies have been selected to participate in the Northern Cleantech Showcase in Silicon Valley next week. In preparation, these companies, all looking for an opportunity to receive a corporate investment, attended an investor bootcamp April 5th, hosted by some of B.C.’s top professional business services providers.

The Northern Cleantech Showcase is a collaboration of cleantech research and consulting company Kachan & Co., financial consultants Deloitte, legal advisers Gowlings, and the Government of British Columbia. In order to prepare the seven companies for their once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, these companies offered a full day bootcamp, providing financial advice, marketing tips and legal knowledge to prepare companies for a shot at venture investment in Silicon Valley.

“The Northern Cleantech Showcase gives Vancouver’s most innovative cleantech companies an opportunity to attract the long term capital needed to fund developments and to build connections with the world’s leading technology corporations. The selected companies had to apply and were accepted based on strict criteria including innovation, market opportunity and the ability to execute.” Dallas Kachan, Managing Partner, Kachan and Co. “It’s rare that companies have the opportunity to receive honest advice from trusted advisers at an early stage. On behalf of Deloitte, we are thrilled to be involved in this opportunity to support the growth of B.C.’s clean tech sector, one that we see as a leading industry within British Columbia.” Bev Pao, Partner, Deloitte.

“For the seven companies at today’s bootcamp, this was a great opportunity. We were able to give them access to key advice, knowledge about how to negotiate the best investment deal, the best marketing tactics and how to prepare financially for this endeavour. Gowlings has long been a supporter of smaller start-ups and innovative cleantech companies, so we are thrilled to be a part of this exciting initiative.” Jack Yong, Partner, Gowlings.
