Dr. Lloyd Axworthy, President and Vice-Chancellor, University of Winnipeg, former Canadian foreign affairs minister and Nobel Peace Prize nominee, is adding a new skill to his repertoire – global blogging for Global Brief.
Global Brief is a Canadian International Affairs Magazine, as well as a multi-lingual website. Its geo-bloggers represent scholars and experts on a variety of international issues from all around the world.

“Geo-blogging presents a unique opportunity to have a serious dialogue with an engaged readership on issues in international affairs,” said Axworthy.
Axworthy has written three posts, two about his recent trip to India and his observations on its economic development as well as the poverty that still remains. The first deals specifically with women’s education and India’s future. The second addresses the food security crisis that is affecting the poor around the work, but with some specific reflections on India.
His third post deals with the situation in Libya and the Responsibility to Protect.

In January 2011, The University of Winnipeg established stronger ties to India with the opening of a learning centre for young women and partnerships with colleges and universities in the Punjab region. Dr. Axworthy attended a celebration of the opening of the Bhanohar Education Centre, an innovative UWinnipeg learning centre for women in Bhanohar Village with Cliff Penner, President, Ventura Homes, the major financial sponsor of the initiative.The Bhanohar Education Centre consists of a library, a computer room and a gym, open to all the women living in the village as well as to those in the surrounding villages. The Centre is possible thanks to a generous donation of $70,000 by Ventura Custom Homes Ltd.
