Career Trek

Imagine if you could experience up to 80 careers in 17 different career fields.

For 600+ youth in Manitoba, they are given this exact opportunity.

Career Trek is a not-for-profit, charitable organization that works to provide students as young as 10, hands-on career experiences with hopes of tapping their potential and passion to pursue post-secondary education.

It was through the vision and leadership of Founder and Executive Director Darrell Cole that Career Trek was born 15 years ago. Cole recalls attending a career fair in high school feeling lost in the direction he was to take his life in. He found that he was interested in careers, only to find that he didn’t have the proper requisites to pursue them.

Too often, we teach young people to make life decisions based on a bag of brochures, career fairs or web sites. At Career Trek, we strongly believe in letting young people actually experience career options for themselves– not only will this tap their potential, but it will also help them find their passions in life.

With five programs and projects spanning Manitoba, Career Trek has programs running in Winnipeg, the Parkland Region and the Westman Region. Career Trek works with various post-secondary institutions including the University of Manitoba, Red River College, The University of Winnipeg, Winnipeg Technical College, Brandon University, Assiniboine Community College, Manitoba Emergency Services College and more to provide innovative programming designed to showcase careers to pique youth’s interest.

Beyond exposing youth to careers, Career Trek also educates participants on the required high school courses they need, and which post-secondary institution they could potentially attend to pursue a specific career.
