Friday evening, the Winnipeg Chamber of Commerce and BDO honoured MTS with a Spirit of Winnipeg Award in the large business category. The Spirit of Winnipeg Awards acknowledge local businesses, not-for-profit organizations and charities who have contributed to the vibrancy of Winnipeg through innovation and entrepreneurship.

“We are very pleased to be one of this year’s recipients,” said Stan Kurtas, Vice President, Marketing, MTS, who accepted the award on behalf of the Company. “As the leading, full service telecommunications provider in Manitoba, innovation is critical to our success. We work hard to ensure our customers have access to the best telecom products and services on the market.”

MTS was a leader in North American Internet Protocol television (“IPTV”) when it introduced MTS TV in 2003. MTS further demonstrated its commitment to innovation when, in 2009, it became the first company in Canada to launch an enhanced IPTV service using Microsoft Mediaroom technology. The award winning MTS Ultimate TV service provides Manitobans with the most feature rich television service in Canada, delivering over 56 HD channels and the industry leading Whole Home PVR service.

MTS Ultimate TV is currently available to 95 per cent of Winnipeg households, and in Brandon, Portage La Prairie and a growing number of homes in Selkirk. Over the next four years, MTS is investing $125 million to make its Ultimate TV service available to an additional 120,000 homes in close to 20 Manitoba communities through the deployment of its fibre optic network.
