Viterra Inc. (TSX:VT) (ASX:VTA) announced today a donation of $75,000 in support of the ongoing rescue and relief efforts in Christchurch, New Zealand, following a major earthquake on Tuesday, February 22. The donation will go to the New Zealand Red Cross 2011 Earthquake Appeal.
Viterra employs approximately 115 people in its New Zealand operations, which include a feed mill and three bulk commodity stores. Only minor damages occurred to the mill and one of the bulk commodity stores that are located near Christchurch.
The Company is known for generously supporting communities in need through its corporate social responsibility program.
Mayo Schmidt, President and Chief Executive Officer said: “The enormity of what has happened to Christchurch is drawing people together across the world to bring help and support to the city and surrounding areas.”
“Our sympathies and thoughts go out to the people of Christchurch and the communities nearby. While we are thankful that our New Zealand employees are accounted for and safe, we know that others have not been as fortunate and we want to be among the first to say we are there and ready to help with ongoing rescue initiatives and rebuilding efforts,” Schmidt added.
In the days ahead, Viterra employees will also be launching fundraising initiatives that will be matched in future with corporate dollars.
