Tourism Winnipeg and industry partners recently gathered to officially celebrate the growth, success and results Team Winnipeg has experienced during the last ten years.
Team Winnipeg is one of Canada’s most successful meeting and convention marketing consortiums having collectively attracted more than 240 meetings, representing 83,000 delegates, translating into more than $77 million in economic impact for the city of Winnipeg. Team Winnipeg was the pioneer in team orientated city promoting; a model that other Canadian cities have followed.
“In Winnipeg we believe that good partnerships produce great results and that working together is always better than working independently; that’s why Team Winnipeg was formed,” says Chantal Sturk-Nadeau, Senior Vice President, Tourism Winnipeg. “Tourism Winnipeg is proud to work together with such a committed and growing number of industry partners. The founding partners of Team Winnipeg showed great foresight and initiative, laying the foundation for long-term growth in Winnipeg.”
In 2000, Tourism Winnipeg led the creation of Team Winnipeg with the support and monetary commitment of 19 partners. Having recognized the economic impact meetings and conventions have on a destination, and with a vested interest in growing this market, Team Winnipeg began to collectively sell and market Winnipeg as an ideal destination.
A decade later, Team Winnipeg continues to operate as a private/public sector partnership with a total of 55 tourism partners committed to promoting Winnipeg as a meeting and convention destination. Team Winnipeg has developed into a trusted and recognized brand in the marketplace with a solid reputation for delivering quality meeting and convention initiatives.
One of the organizations that has strongly supported Team Winnipeg’s efforts, having brought their Dominion Convention to Winnipeg in June 2010, is The Royal Canadian Legion.

An undisputed focal point of Winnipeg`s meeting and convention landscape, and an active participant in the Team Winnipeg initiative is the Winnipeg Convention Centre.

Tourism Winnipeg officially marked this ten year milestone by bringing together past and present partners, stakeholders and clients to celebrate their collective success with an event on Thursday, January 6th at The Fairmont Winnipeg. Special guests from The Royal Canadian Legion, Canadian Library Association and Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, all long-time supporters of Team Winnipeg, were each presented with an award of appreciation. Several Team Winnipeg partners also shared the impact and results they have experienced as members.
