Gordon Gillis has been appointed President and CEO of Safety Services Manitoba, a not-for-profit organization that delivers comprehensive safety and health services for Manitobans.
“Gord brings extensive experience in safety and health consulting to this position,” said Jamie Hall, Chair, Safety Services Manitoba Board of Directors. “His strong leadership abilities will enable the organization to continue to develop its services to meet the training needs of Manitobans.”
Gillis has held successful leadership positions in both Canada and the United States.
He holds designations from Canadian Registered Safety Professionals (CRSP), Certified Safety Professionals (CSP) and Certified Health and Safety Consultant (CHSC). A skilled communicator, Gillis has a Master’s degree in Communications and has contributed to numerous publications, including the best-selling book “Bouncing Back: Thriving in Changing Times”.
Gillis is recruiting for his former position of Director of Occupational Health and Safety at Safety Services Manitoba. In the position, Gillis was instrumental in increasing SSM’s service offerings, including blended learning solutions and online options to expand access to training for those living in rural and remote communities. He successfully recruited and managed consultants and instructors to deliver courses and workshops, resulting in exceptional feedback from clients and customers.
“I am excited at the opportunity to lead Safety Services Manitoba as the President and CEO,” said Gillis. “Our safety and health services are so important to all Manitobans and I look forward to continuing to increase awareness of Safety Services Manitoba and develop much needed products and services to meet and exceed the market’s expectations.”
Under Gillis’ leadership, Safety Services Manitoba’s priorities include: the development of a Manitoba Aboriginal Workplace Safety Initiative; the formation of a Canadian Immigrant Safety Coalition to build upon the commitment to new Canadians that began with the Manitoba Immigrant Services Initiative (MISI); and the improvement of relations with the health care sector by developing a suite of training programs and safety services specifically for this high risk industry.
