Employees give generously, company matches donations
MTS is proud to announce that through its Manitoba Employee 2010 United Way Campaign, MTS employees raised over $435,000 for United Way and United Way agencies across Manitoba, $25,000 more than what was raised during last year’s campaign. MTS is a corporate cornerstone in United Way of Winnipeg’s annual campaign, having raised more than five million dollars over the past two decades through employee contributions, corporate donations and various fundraising and awareness events.
“At MTS, we’re committed to giving back to the communities in which we live and work and that’s exactly what we did through our fundraising campaign for United Way,” said Kelvin Shepherd, President, MTS. “The employee campaign committee did a fantastic job planning this year’s campaign and I would like to personally thank everyone who volunteered their time and pledged their support in this tremendous fundraising effort.”
This year’s United Way Campaign kicked-off at MTS offices across the province on August 5. The campaign ran until September 10 in Winnipeg and rural Manitoba, and until September 16 in Brandon. The aim of the 2010 campaign was to personally ask the nearly 3,300 MTS employees to consider making a donation to United Way. Awareness events, fundraising activities and silent auctions were held throughout the campaign. Employees were able to contribute through events or by pledging to donate via payroll deduction with each employee’s personal donations being matched dollar for dollar by MTS.
MTS Allstream, along with its employees, makes financial, in-kind, and volunteer contributions to charities and non-profit organizations across the country. The company was recently recognized as the only telecommunications company among the Best 50 Corporate Citizens in Canada.
