KPMG, one of Canada’s leading professional services firms, has received Simon Fraser University’s Nancy McKinstry award for leadership in diversity.

The SFU corporate award, presented during a sold-out breakfast at the university’s Segal Graduate School of Business in Vancouver, recognizes an organization that exemplifies the values of diversity in the workplace.

KPMG was recognized for its core values, based on diversity, equity and inclusion. The company’s B.C. offices employ more than 200 people from over 50 nationalities.

The award was presented to Barb Livingston, Associate Partner at KPMG.

Also acknowledged was SFU MBA student Ravneet Kaur Sandhu, who received the 2010 Nancy McKinstry graduate student scholarship for leadership. The $1,500 award is given to an SFU Business graduate student who has been a leader in promoting opportunities for women in business.

Sandhu, who moved to Canada two months ago, helped promote awareness of female feticide in rural areas of Punjab, India.

Raised in Punjab’s capital city of Chandigarh, she began her professional career in software development and maintenance at India’s Infosys Technologies Ltd., a high-tech company, where she volunteered with the company’s social services group – and was the only female to join her company’s basketball team.

The Awards for Leadership in Diversity were established in 2009 to honour Dr. McKinstry for her contributions to SFU as Chair of the Board of Governors.

The Nancy McKinstry Graduate Scholarship for Leadership is supported by the Nancy McKinstry Endowment , established to honour McKinstry and build on her legacy.
