The Tourism Industry Association of Canada has announced the finalists for the 2010 National Awards for Tourism Excellence, and two Manitoba entries have made the finals.  The Awards have been presented since 2003 by TIAC to recognize the best of Canada’s tourism industry, and to reward those people, places, organizations and events that have gone above and beyond to offer a superior tourism experience to travelers in Canada.

Travel Manitoba and Tourism Winnipeg congratulate Manitoba’s finalists:

Marian has been a tour guide with Ô TOURS, which offers a complete range of receptive tour services, since 2002. Her knowledge, attention to detail, initiative and positive outlook ensure tour participants have a memorable experience in Manitoba.

The Fairmont Winnipeg has been named a finalist in the CTHRC Award for Excellence in Human Resources Development. The Fairmont Winnipeg is known for its exemplary service and has built an extraordinary team in delivering that service.

“Individuals and businesses from Manitoba’s tourism industry continue to be recognized nationally for their outstanding efforts,” said Hubert Mesman, President and CEO of Travel Manitoba. “This recognition is a direct reflection of the quality of the people and products in our province’s tourism industry.”

Vice President of Tourism Winnipeg, Chantal Sturk-Nadeau stated, “There are many aspects of our tourism industry that deserve recognition. From our world class venues, facilities and services to our professional expertise, Winnipeg continues to offer the quintessential visitor experience. We’d like to congratulate the two local finalists. They have both exhibited a high degree of leadership in the delivery of exceptional visitor experiences.”

“We are very proud of this outstanding list of finalists for this year’s Awards,” said TIAC President and CEO David Goldstein. “This impressive collection of tourism businesses – and the people who make them thrive – demonstrates the wealth of ingenuity, enthusiasm and perseverance in our sector. There are great tourism successes stories all across our country, and we are very pleased to recognize the organizations and individuals who help make Canada a world-class destination.”

Three finalists were named in each of the 14 award categories. The National Awards for Tourism Excellence, presented by The Toronto Star, will be presented at a gala dinner in Gatineau, Quebec on November 2, 2010 as part of The Tourism Summit, TIAC’s annual national tourism policy conference.
