Economic Development Winnipeg Wins Achievement Award

Economic Development Winnipeg is pleased to announce it is the proud recipient of the 2009-2010 Outstanding Economic Development Achievement Award. Despite a challenging global economy Economic Development Winnipeg, along with 10 organizations selected out of 166 jurisdictions, was lauded for the organizations innovation, collaborative efforts and corporate job attraction. 

The award was presented to Economic Development Winnipeg President and CEO, Marina R. James at the Economic Development Association Conference in Quebec City.

“Cities are undeniably significant engines of regional, provincial and national economic growth,” says Marina R. James, President and CEO, Economic Development Winnipeg. “Winnipeg, as the capital city of Manitoba, represents a high concentration of economic output for the province.” 

In addition, Economic Development Winnipeg was recently recognized as one of the top 10 Economic Development Groups in Canada by Site Selection Magazine. Groups were selected based on several criteria including job creation, regional partnership, pro-active programming and quality data and web resources.

Economic Development Winnipeg’s successful rebranding and restructuring, a 45 % increase in building permit values over first quarter last year and major expansions by Magellen Aerospace and Monsanto Canada were cited as attributes which contributed to the organizations recognition.
