The Manitoba Trucking Association is pleased to award three more deserving recipients with the MTA-Custom Truck Sales Inc Industry Excellence Award. These three winners are the final three winners for 2009, and they are certainly worthy recipients. Combined, they have almost 90 years of driving experience and are approaching 10 million miles.

(from left to right) is: Susan Snyder, MTA President; Steve Simmons, Arnold Bros Transport Ltd; Bill Gagnon, Big Freight Systems Inc; Jim Clark, Customs Truck Sales Inc. (not pictured: Ken Bradley, Arnold Bros Transport Ltd).
Ken Bradley – Ken, of Portage la Prairie, Manitoba, has been a member of our industry since 1980. He began his career with McCain Foods before heading over to Arnold Bros for several years. He left Arnold Brothers for a brief time, but returned last year for a total of 17 years of service to Arnold Bros Transport Ltd. He has taken a number of safety-related courses, and has no preventable accidents on his driving record. Wayne Hickman, Safety Compliance Officer with Arnold Bros, says Ken has a “strong commitment to on-time pick-up and delivery, while at the same time ensuring public safety through safe driving techniques”.
Steve Simmons – Steve is also a driver with Arnold Brothers, and is the “rookie” of this group with 14 years driving experience. However, Steve has been working in our industry since 1981, beginning his career as a mechanic with Paramount Kenworth. He also has no preventable accidents on his driving record, and has also taken a number of courses as part of his commitment to safe driving. He has a great relationship with customers, and is described as a team player with a great attitude. Steve is based out of Winnipeg.
Bill Gagnon – Bill, from Brandon, Manitoba, was nominated by his employer, Big Freight Systems Inc, and as a driver with 43 years driving experience, he is definitely a deserving winner! Bill was a driver with the Canadian Armed Forces before becoming a commercial truck driver. He has driven on all sorts of roads, from highways to bush roads, and has moved all types of equipment, including Super Bs, reefers, and grain trailers. He helps other drivers with cargo securement and tarping, and goes out of his way to assist those new to the company. He has a customer first attitude; Adrian Van Rassel, Operations/CC Planner at Big Freight Systems Inc, says his every action goes “above and beyond”.
Recipients of the MTA-Custom Truck Sales Inc Industry Excellence Award receive a keeper trophy, a jacket, pen set and mug, and cash prize to recognize their commitment to our industry. Further, all winners are nominated for the MTA-Volvo Trucks Canada Driver of the Year Award. This year’s Driver of the Year award will be presented on June 26 at the Driver Awards Banquet, which follows the 2010 Manitoba Professional Truck Driving Championship.
