Following a comprehensive search process, the Board of Directors of the Winnipeg Regional Health Authority is very pleased to announce that Ms. Arlene Wilgosh has accepted the position of President & CEO for our Health Region.

Ms. Wilgosh was selected from a field of very strong candidates and we’re delighted to have an individual with such a high caliber of health care knowledge and expertise to continue to lead this important work and carry on our caring tradition.

A long-time nurse and health care administrator, Ms. Wilgosh joins us after five years as Deputy Minister of Health and Healthy Living for the Province of Manitoba. She also holds the distinction of being the first nurse and first female in this position as well as the longest serving Provincial Deputy Minister of Health in the country. Prior to this role, Ms. Wilgosh also served as the Assistant Deputy Minister of Health for Regional Affairs, Executive Director of the Regional Health Authorities of Manitoba (RHAM) and CEO of Red River Valley Health District. She began her career in health care at Health Sciences Centre as a staff nurse, followed by thirteen years in front-line intensive care nursing and nurse management positions at the Victoria General Hospital.

Over the past several years, Ms. Wilgosh has worked closely with health care, government and academic leaders throughout our Province. We are very confident that her in-depth knowledge and understanding of health care from both a national and local perspective, combined with her outstanding leadership qualities and calm, caring demeanor will serve her well in this new role. As she takes on this new position beginning March 22, 2010, Ms. Wilgosh will be the first nurse and the first female to lead the largest Health Region in Manitoba.

While Dr. Postl prepares for his upcoming retirement, we are very pleased that he will stay with us for a period of time to ensure a complete and seamless transition.
