Minister Announces Manitoba Business Gateway For Wheat City

BRANDON – Competitiveness, Training and Trade Minister Andrew Swan, speaking at a Brandon Chamber of Commerce luncheon here today, recognized the important contribution of small business to Manitoba’s economy and announced a new information and referral service gateway for Brandon and area businesses.

Swan acknowledged Oct. 18 to 24 as the 30th anniversary of Small Business Week, honouring and celebrating the achievements of the entrepreneurs and small businesses in Manitoba.

“Small and medium-sized businesses are vital to our provincial economy,” said Swan. “As a government we are committed to helping them succeed.”

To further support small business in the Brandon area, Swan announced the Manitoba Business Gateway – Brandon, a new and enhanced single-window business gateway that will provide information, referrals and access to the province’s vast array of business and employment information and services.

“The new gateway is another important step to providing information and services that are responsive to the needs of small business in the Brandon area,” said Swan. “Whether at the gateway service counter, through the Internet or over the phone, the Manitoba Business Gateway lays the groundwork for improving the quality, accessibility, and efficient delivery of employment and business information and services for the Brandon area.”

“The Manitoba Business Gateway – Brandon marks a significant improvement in the delivery of important information and services that businesses depend upon,” said and Agriculture, Food and Rural Initiatives Minister Rosann Wowchuk.  “Agricultural producers and rural business will be able to react faster to changing business conditions, which will make them more competitive in a challenging economic environment.”

Wowchuk noted that Manitoba Agriculture Food and Rural Initiatives will provide staff support for the gateway.

The Manitoba Business Gateway is part of the Single Window for Business Initiative, launched by the province in 2007.
