Don Forbes has been active in various community organizations over the years.
One that holds special sway with him is the Friends of Spruce Woods Park where he led the fundraising committee in generating nearly a quarter million dollars from private sector funds for the new Interpretive Centre at the park.
He has also been in a variety of positions with the local Carberry and District Community Development Corporation.
He was one of the founding members of the Spruce Woods Employment Services and Carberry Community Works Loan subcommittees.
In addition to this, he volunteered for the by-law drafting committee and later served as the founding President of the Carberry and Area Community Foundation Inc.
Don has been very involved and engaged within the Chamber of Commerce movement as well. He was the President of the Carberry and District Chamber of Commerce in 1991, Chair of the Manitoba Chambers of Commerce in 1999, and served for two years as Manitoba Chambers Director on the Canadian Chamber of Commerce national board. Don has also served as Regional Vice-Chair of the Western Region of the Manitoba Chamber for many years. For all his work and dedication to his community, Don was named Citizen of the Year in 2001 by the Carberry and District Chamber of Commerce.
Of course, Don would not have been able to do all this volunteer work on various committees without the help and love of his lovely wife Ruth and the support of his son Erik.
